Welcome to the Emu Page
We
have now started getting some emus. The first one I acquired was from the Animal
Control Shelter. I heard they had captured an emu so I called them to verify it
and sure enough they had one. They had no idea if it was a female or a male but
decided to take it home and try to find a mate for it. I was just like people at
the animal shelter and did not know anything about them.
I brought the emu home not really knowing what I was going to do with it
because I did not have fences high enough to hold an emu. I had a chicken pin
that was 8 feet by 12 feet and decided to keep it in there for a few days. This
would give me a chance to get acquainted with my emu and give me a chance to
make my fences higher.
In
a couple of days I was in the feed store where all of my feed is purchased and
there was a friend of mine buying feed at the same time. My friend wanted to
know if I wanted a mate for my newly acquired emu. She said she had a couple of
males and I could have one.

Hey let out of this egg |
Emu egg: What are they good for and can you
eat them? Yes they make very good scrambled eggs but I like to add a
little milk to take away the very strong egg flavor. Emu eggs have very
thick shells and can be carved with an engraver and decorated. Some
people paint them a variety of colors or paint scenes on them. I have
cut out a couple and stuffed teddy bears in them. |

Cool almost made it out of this emu egg |
